22 Speed Triple 1200 RS - Project

Started on this a few years ago. A slow process of adding, breaking, fixing and learning since I acquired the 1200.

Not to everyone’s taste but I like it… I am stuck in the 90’s era forever :joy:

Parts list (so far)

  • Tuned by BT Moto (claimed 180 at the tire and 200 at the sprocket. Have not got it on a dyno so can’t state any confirmed #'s)
  • Healtech Device - A must to trick the bike into thinking the servo is still attached!
  • Austin Racing Exhaust - deleted both silencers but the cat is still in place. It’s LOUD but I love it. I also ride with ear plugs the connect directly into the Cardo system. Once I road without the ear plugs and the idea of going straight pipe suddenly left my thoughts  I wouldn’t mind adding an electronic valve for those really “obvious” days, but we’ll see.
  • Changed the handlebars to dirt bike bars. Reason for doing this, it’s different. It also made the bike a little comfier riding daily to work, without adding risers. The bike will likely never see the track, so my focus is what I like on the street.
  • Double take mirrors - I love these mirrors! I found the bar end style to be totally useless. With these being more central on the bars, ZERO vibration and I can actually use them. Looks under the arms and is a nice quick confirmation to see if there is a vehicle or rider next to you before you do the shoulder check. Probably my most favorite change on the bike so far.
  • ASV leavers - obnoxious price but I really wanted the gold finish. Looks won over common sense here  but they look cool!
  • Sato Racing rear seats - Unreal upgrade to the bike!!
  • DND Gold Chain - I got the bike pre-owned (only 3000km’s on it!) and the chain was not looked after at all. First item to change and I love the look. I forget the exact model the chain actually is. But it looks flashy
  • New front and rear sprockets - I actually didn’t need to do this but read that it’s best to replace sprockets when changing the chain. Stayed with the OEM # of teeth for the front and rear.
  • EBC pads - Something I also didn’t need to do, thought it would reduce the dreaded Brembo squeak… it did not :person_facepalming:
  • Micro turn signals - AliExpress score! I was worried I would need to add a resistor, but they have been fine for two seasons! I really hated the massive ones that stuck out and every other option stuck out the same.
  • Fly screen / Windshield - when I was looking at the PUIG brand for this shield, I was on the fence. Mainly the price is what kept me at bay for some time. I wasn’t 100% on the look. Found a knock off on ali for a fraction of the cost, that made more sense to test the look before committing the real thing. However, … I have had this ali copy for 3 seasons now and it’s held up perfectly! It’s also a steeper rake than the PUIG version, I actually prefer the Ali one.
  • Evo-Tech engine crash protection - Sadly already tested these out… they work fantastic btw! Thankfully fixed the bike two weeks later, still have a dent in the tank to repair. That will be done over the winter months. The goal currently is to either have it wrapped or air brushed with a ghost black & white and carbon Union jack that will also go over the tail.
  • Twill Matte Carbon… EVERYWHERE!! - Almost have every plastic part replaced with carbon in the matte twill weave finish. I’ve seen a lot of 1200 RS’s with gloss carbon and I wanted to be different. I lucked out with the mix of black shades all over the bike. Even being black I think it really stands out. Happy with the matte finish choice!
  • S23 Tires - Love these tires! Was suggested to me by my local mechanic, very happy! I also went with a 200 on the rear. Not chasing performance, I mainly wanted that fat tire out back. Really finishes off that classy street fighter look!
  • Custom tank pads - Since the RS is covered by the tank pads, I found a sticker pack that had a nice little name logo. Cut some of the grippy parts of the pad and inlaid the small logo. Adds a really classy look that stands out nicely.
  • Under glow - Not everyone’s preference but I LOVE it! The first kit I used was not bright at all. But this second kit is insane for how bright it is. I have it controlled by and app on my phone but did not want battery drain. I installed a switch that’s hidden behind the plate under the tail as hard on/off connection to the battery. Works perfect!

For the future I have my eyes on:

  • Clear clutch cover that also lights up
  • New S23 tires - super close to needing to replace my current ones.
  • More carbon for the rest of the plastic parts
  • Tank fixed with the custom artwork, wrap or painted. Not sure yet.
  • PPF to be added to the carbon and colored PPF for the DRL’s to change the color.
  • Maybe an electronic valve to replace the cat - thinking if I can use the horn button to open and close the valve as I have removed the horn. Gonna need to do some testing to see.
  • Titanium anodized nuts and bolts
  • Ceramic coated exhaust

Then I have no idea what’s next… maybe a tiger 900 pro rally

(Dent was removed with AI  )

Pretty happy with the wiring for the underglow kit. I have to custom make each wire and then a harness, so the whole kit ca be removed if required.

The underglow isn’t my vibe, but does somehow lend it a Blood Runners feel.

Check out Andy Sparrow’s artwork

It isn’t for everyone but that’s ok, I love it  Definitely a personal choice.

Never seen his artwork before. It really does lend itself to that style, which I vibe with!
