Good afternoon all new member High Peak Derbyshire. Iam building a '77 T140 engine from scratch, learning as I go, could I please ask is there anything to fit where the cams go into drive side half of crankcase, I note the earlier models have a spring and a revolving window affair, there doesn’t seem to be anything listed on parts diagrams I have looked at. Many thanks Dave
Can’t help you, but hi and welcome. ![]()
How do Fella! Welcome in… again, not in the engine repairs camp myself either… maybe @Iron if he’s kicking about?
Cheers Bud
Hi, I think you are referring to the earlier engines that breathe through a timed breather on the inlet cam. After 1970 the engine breathing was changed so it breathed though the primary chain case. So no spring or disc is needed on the inlet cam.
Many thanks , could you also please advise there is a breather pipe that runs behind a cover plate into a smaller pipe to lubricate primary drive chain there is also a fitment that retains the cover plate behind which is just a hole in the case and only part I can find is a rubber grommet , is this also part of the breather system ? Many thanks for any help Dave
That rubber grommet in the middle of your photo goes over the stator cable which exits through there. The oil that is thrown around by the chainwheel collects in the little tray then drips down the small pipe, doesn’t really do much to be honest with all the oil being thrown around. The breather pipe fixes behind that plate with a fitting on the outside.
