A trip to the Wall

My researches having established that most of the natives have now given up cannibalism and human sacrifice, I ventured over the border into England today :grimacing:. To be precise, the part of Cumbria around Brampton and Gilsland. north of the A69. I wanted to explore some of the minor roads along Hadrian’s Wall. One particular little road ran beside the remains of the Wall along an escarpment with panoramic views over the valley of the River Irthing, and passing by the Birdoswald Roman Fort visitor centre and the remains of the Banks lookout turret.

At 22 degrees today it was about as hot as I can ride in with any pleasure - OK if you keep moving.. The next couple of days are forecast to be 26 or 27, so the bike can definitely stay in its garage. Glad I got out today.

did all the routes along Hadrian’s wall and including fort visiting. But it was in February and the wind was freezing my bones.

One thing that struck me when I was out yesterday was the large number of modern Bonneville variants, like mine, that I saw - more than any other bike. They seem to be getting really popular/common (depending on your point of view!) Or is it just that the retro style is easily recognised compared with the generic modern multis that tend to look alike?
