It took me time to post this, and as we doesn’t stop to take pictures (we just enjoy the moment) you’ll have just the “minimum syndical” ![]()
Soo 6th of August should be the big departure, the NT1100 on the trailer, direction to my good friend Michael that lives around Lansberg am Lech in Bayern… but the day before my lovely wife decides to reverse with her new electric car while I was opening the big steel gate we have at home.. bam on the side of my head, ejected 1,5m without touching the floor, knocked down. I decided to go ahead preparing the departure, if I have no further sign of trauma, we’ll go.
And the night was ok, a bit of pain at the impact, but I kept that for me, not to add extra guilt to my wife. 600 unpleasant km, across Switzerland, and here we are in Germany unloading the bike, and get a beer.
Friday 7th of August - Lansberg am lech (DE) ==> Innsbruck (AT) ==> Cortina d’Ampezzo (IT)
6 hours on the bike, lunch in Innsbruck near the big Olympic tremplin. Unfortunately the city centre was not accessible because of road work, and we didn’t want to let the fully loaded bike somewhere and walk away.
Arriving in Cortina d’Ampezzo, we always chose hotel near the city centre, with a parking for the bike. Why Cortina? The one that knows me are aware of my passion for James Bond 007 and a part of “For your eyes only” was shot there. Cortina is VERY posh, but with that strong Dolce Vita atmosphere. we loved it, a lot. I will go back there for sure.
Saturday 8th of August Cortina D’Ampezzo ==> Timau (IT) ==> Koper (Slovenia)
we head to a small village in the Dolomites. Roads, panorama are stunning in the Dolomites. Up hill the temperature lower to a little 16°. Arriving in Timau, a little village just below the summit border of Austria. There is a little museum about what happened during the WW1. Italians at the time where fighting the very close Austrians, and that village is known for the ladies of the village walking everyday up to the front line carrying everything needed on their back.
Now the head down to Slovenia through Trieste. as we are down from the mountain roads, it’s not exciting anymore. The temperature climbs up to 35°, we cope with the italian drivers… We even passed 2 of them fist fighting on the side of the road
(none of them could hit as hard as my gate) I started to stop to try to calm the situation, but my wife urged me to continue.
Arriving in Koper, Slovenia. Very nice hotel with a relent of Yougoslavia. As you arrive sweat soaked on a motorcycle, and a groom arrive with a golden trolley to bring your luggages in your room, I enjoy that.
Sunday 9th of August Koper (SLO) ==> Flagenfurt (Worthersee) (AT)
We start with a very nice motorcycle road with long curves toward Ljubliana. Lots of sunday racers passed us like they are on a track. We enjoy the road at our own rythme.
Then comes the Loibl pass, very nice road to reenter Austria.
Hotel near a big lake, la Dolce Vita, but with leather pants and feather hats.
Monday 110th of August Flagenfurt ==> Kitzbuel
Nice Sud Tyrol roads, a bit similar to the ones we have there around Aix les Bains. another 4 hours riding in the heat, but that was nice.
As usual, we choose a very nice hotel, and that one had swimming pools, one “natural” outside, means green water with old people swimming in, we choose the empty inside one and enjoyed it a lot, before walking to the very nice little city of Kitzbuel.
Tuesday 11th of August Kitzbuel ==> Lansberg am lech
Back to my friends place. The ride was supposed to be only 3 hours, but we made some detours to see the numerous lakes of the area.
And YES finally we had some rain riding down Stadt-Predlitz pass! and I liked it.
A group of “Sport” bikers tried to follow our path, but at my surprise, they couldn’t and we ended losing them in the wet curves. They later passed us like jetplanes on the dry ![]()
Another 5 hours on the bike, lots of lakes, pass, and fun.
Wednesday 12th of August, Bike on the Trailer, pickup loaded with cases of german beer, time to head home after a nice BBQ with my friends. On Thursday I play a concert with my funk band.
