I’ll be setting off Sunday morning, first destination Honfleur, Normandy. From there I’ll visit some Overlord sites and make my way down to Le Mans. I’ll work out my route South from there. Forecast is favourable, so should be plain sailing the first couple of days.
I’ve been wanting to visit Bardenas Reales for some time. Make my way back through the Cevennes, Ardeche, Vercors and some of the French Alps.
Bike is patiently waiting, will be loaded up tomorrow…
Passed pretty close by there yesterday driving from Santander to the Med coast. It was bastard hot, 34 degrees, so pack a string vest. Safe ride

Have a great trip. I land at Rotterdam June 4th and plan on heading due south to @Hubaxe’s, so if you’re heading home around that time we may bump into each other. Let’s keep in touch nearer the time to see if that works logistically…

Day 1. 351 miles
I left home at 8.00. First heading for Antwerp, which took me 1,5 hours. 1,5 hours later I was in France, where I left the motorway.
Lovely countryside and lunch on the way…
Near my destination I crossed the Pont de Normandie - pretty impressive!
Now at digs in Honfleur, enjoying a well deserved beer!
My father landed at Arromanches on D Day + 6. He was a dispatch rider.
Honfleur is a beautiful destination, your digs look fantastic. Pleased your first day was uneventful.
Day 2. 260 miles
Got up and had a nice breakfast.
Then got on the road towards the beaches. I i deemed it too hot and busy to visit any museums at 34C… so stuck to seeing the venues.
Sword beach.
Juno beach.
American cemetary. Very impressive. Humbling.
Omaha beach.
I had planned to visit Utah beach and the church with the hanging parachutist as well but it was just too hot, so I decided to make for Le Mans, my destination for today early.
Arrived safely.
Shame you couldn’t make Sainte Mere Englis, but can understand given the temperature. It was similar temperatures when my grandson and I visited the area a few years ago, and we adjusted our days accordingly. I hope you enjoyed the old town in Le Mans.
Day 3. 195 miles
A travelling day. Early to rise to try and beat the heat again. Nice breakfast, followed by nice scenery along the way.
Arrived at destination, then cooled down for a bit before going out for dinner.
Oeuf en cocotte followed by magret de canard, washed down with a cool chardonnay.
Then finished with a lovely glass of Calvados.
Bike is securely parked behind a locked fence, so I’m happy.
I don’t know about the scenery, but that looks like a lovely dinner…
