after a bit of advice had my speed triple booked in for a mot today checked it all over Monday everything ok started ok checked it again yesterday all good. obviously the day of the mot it wouldn’t start hit the starter just clicking after a few stabs on the starter it fired up. got to the local garage for petrol again just a couple of clicks then it fired up. it’s a 15 mile ride to the test center I didn’t want to chance it so came back home put a multi meter on it and it reads 12.6 with the ignition of and drops to 12.2 ignition on should it drop that much just buy turning the ignition on. it was a new battery 12 months ago it hasn’t been ridden since last summer but is kept on a optimate
Just tested my Speedmaster and battery was 13.0V which dropped to 12.4V when ignition turned on so voltage drop seems normal.
When I’ve had dodgy starting in past it’s been down to loose battery or ground connections. Have you checked the bolt where the battery negative is connected to the engine? (Or wherever it goes on your bike.) And also that the battery terminals are tight.
agree with the mouse. After checking all connectors are thight and clean, I would have the battery tested by a specialist. The voltage can look normal but the battery can be wrong.
I have checked the leads all seem tight I had problems when I first got the bike slow to crank turned out it was the starter motor thought it was now sorted. could it be the starter solenoid hope not looks a right nightmare to get at
The clicking is the starter solenoid. So that only leaves battery to solenoid, solenoid to starter motor and battery to starter motor connections. One by one take them apart, clean and remake them. Testing after remaking each connection.
