Does anyone know where to get bigger rear sprockets to 140v Bonneville? I have now 49, but i still wish to lower gear… Coming old and i do want less speed when riding in forest paths. My bike is ok tuned and lifts front wheel when there’s a log on path, but… so if you know where to get 51-53 rear sprocket, i would be happy![]()
Would it be easier to change for a smaller front sprocket than a bigger rear one ?
I’ve never used these guys…
@Hubaxe may have a point, if your original rear is 47t and you want to go up to 53t… you should really be changing the full chain and sprocket set, so you could go from the original 20t (for a 1978 engine) down one or two teeth instead. The trick is to ensure the full set match and you’re not forcing a stretched chain onto new sprockets, causing issues with the sprocket toothing to the chain pitch.
Well, i allready have new set 18 and 47 to instalm to my bike. I have longer chain to conpensate bigger sprocket. I do not want smaller front, cause it will wear faster…
I’m sorry, researching this is a little confusing… I think the original 78 engine has a 20t… so you may have already dropped it 2 teeth, so yeah… I’d leave that alone probably and try and get a custom made up that suits the Chain Pitch of 5/8" x 3/8".
That the extent of my ability to interfere/help with this, sorry @jamba
Yep! I think i have to get someone to make custom sprocket to me. I just wondered, if i could find sprocket from another bike that would fit.
Have a word with that first company I showed you… it’s what they do. I just can’t recommend them personally as I’ve never used their services.
If you’re looking at other bikes as a stand point… check out old British scramble, trail and trials gear
Absolutely not. You have to dissemble the entire primary to get at it!![]()
