Gearchange quadrant query

Good afternoon Iam building a '77 T140 engine ( year by crankcase numbers) have had issues with the year having “crossover” choices for some parts. I have a left hand change 5 speed gearbox unit however the outer cover kickstart side will not fit due to gearchange quadrant not going past the quadrant spindle in the inner cover , I assume the slot in the end of the quadrant I have is to fit the end of the crossover bar from the primary drive side? How is this possible please or do I have one or more of the affore mentioned " conflicting parts" for this year of engine manufacture ie wrong inner gearbox cover, wrong quadrant for left hand change? Appreciate any help .Stay cool Peeps Dave sorry tried to post 3 pictures but it says I can only post one! The other pictures showquadrant spindle in inner gearbox cover which stops the pictured quadrant passing to crossover bar and picture of outer cover I have purchased, no access for right hand gear lever.

The gearchange quadrants are slightly different on the early and late 1976 models

Part numbers are 57-7007 (late 76 and early 77) and 57-7021 (early 76 then late 77 and onwards):

The above picture shows a Les Harris quadrant from TheBonnevilleShop.com with notes that they can be altered to fit the later models

I’ve not come across this or tried it as I’ve always just ordered the part number required but it may be worth having a look at the notes on the above website. At least you should know, then, what part number you have.

It also mentions that the spring openings can be amended to aid fit, maybe that’s the issue.

Have taken inner cover off, spindle for gearchange quadrant slides freely ( blocking access for the crosdover bar/ selector quadrant) parts list shows a split pin, mine obviously doesnt have one fitted, hence it sliding over to block this access but I cant seem to find a hole for the split pin to fit, blind ad a bat !!!

One split pin goes through the quadrant and the pin. The other goes through the cover and the slot in the pin. The split pins then stop the quadrant pin sliding about.

Watch Todd fiddle around with his on a T120 650 (about 14/15 mins in)

Thats what I thought Bro my casing on gearbox inner cover has no holes for the split pins ! The quadrant spindle just slides freely so must have slid across on assembly. Manufacturing fault or is that how the later T140 were? Would post you a pic but says I can only post 1 per thread.

The spindle has slid across blocking slotted selector quadrant slotted end , cant find any holes to fit spilt pins to hold in place !!

Sorry, yes later year models have no split pins. (Have a look at the 1980 parts catalogue). I can’t remember looking to see how the pin was held in place. I wish I could help but I’ve no engines apart to go look.

Thanks again Bud, really enjoying this build learning as I go , its addictive ! I have that many “spare” conficting parts its almost forcing me to build another !!!
