Hi everyone , a new member here who is interested in buying a Speed Triple 1200 RS 2025.
I have a superstock R1 2015 which is far from oem so is my Aprilia Factory Mille 2005 which is the same .
I would like a more user friendly bike that i can put a nice exhaust on map it and just ride it , also i am 66 now .
I will keep the R1 and the RSV.
Purely for the fact they have had too much money on them .
Could some who has a 2025 1200RS tell me what they think of it , is there a considerable difference from the 24 model .
I know about the suspension EC3 ,what else is new , and is there a problem with the quickshifter ?
I would like to do some Europe trips , and and does the aftermarket fly screens like Puig , give you good wind protection ? I will take one for a test ride in the spring .
I am recovering from an operation , and hope to be fit enough to ride by then.
My bike history is pretty varied ,a few track bikes in there as i used to race when i was younger started in 1978
AJW 50cc, 185 suzuki , Bulltaco TTS 250 single cylinder water-cooled T stroke 1967 track bike .
Norvil Norton , GS 750 with a 1000 cc motor , Gsxr slingshot 750 1986 ,TZ 350E Yamaha track bike , Wes Cooley rep i made with Trevor Nation’s NW200 motor ,but the engine was too powerful for the modified oem frame , spat my mate off at Castle Combe and ruptured his spline , that was a bit of mistake that build ,the engine came out of a P&M frame which i could not afford.
Like Trevor said when i picked it up ,you are going to have some fun with that , when i told him what i was going to put in an oem frame and he laughed .
When you are 24 years old you don’t care , as you think you are fearless .
My mate who was riding it was a good rider and was racing a RG 500 mk5 Suzuki race bike open racer had raced in the Manx gp . Even with his skill he couldn’t stay on it . He was leading at the time ,but it ruptured spine and busted my new Arai as he was wearing it
.
Big break till 2015 ,actually passed my bike test in 2012 as i only had a race licence and a provisional bike , and i could ride up to 250 at the time , After the test then came the Aprilia and then the R1 as i made a mistake of going on track again on an Aprilia facebook forum track day .
So to the present , where i fancy having a nice road bike , that i can do a bit of touring , and i can take a pillion on the odd time.
I like the Triumph , its different ,it has some really good components on it.
They have impressed me with their engine reliability in moto 2 .
I did a 650 cc Triumph a rolling chassis and box full of bits a pre unit 60s cafe racer but never finished it, a friend came around and offered me good money i sold it . There is a few bikes i wish i never sold ,the 1973 Norvil ,the Bultaco and the Triumph that i never finished . But i guess we all have them regrets .
I really got my heart set on this Triumph 1200 RS , i want a sit up beg and bike or a naked as they call them now .
I look forward to meeting you all and if i buy one after my road test , i hope to be here for a while .
T.I.A
Hi and welcome. I can’t really help you, as my Speed Triple is a 2005
I did tour quite a lot with that though. Now that I’m a wee bit less supple I use my Tiger 1200 Explore for that.
Hi , thanks for your reply , my friend sold his streetfighter V4 and bought and bought an Africa Twin .
I don’t know if i could live with adventure bike or if i would make enough use of it.
It’s nice to know that you done some touring on yours and they are good for that use , i want to enjoy some of the beautiful road in Europe.
When i road test the RS , i might take a Tiger out too.
I see a 2025 RS for sale a shade under £13k, just over 2k millage.
I think it’s lot bike for the money.
Yes that looks great , unless i was going on rough roads , i really don’t see the point of an Adventure bike.
That’s enough luggage for me too , it has plenty of room on it .
I am about 5ft 8" and with a aftermarket fly screen , i think it would give me some good wind protection.
See how my recovery goes and i should be testing one in March.
I want to go and watch Montee Impossible in France . That hill climb looks such good fun .
My thumb brake on the R1 came from the Netherlands , Qnium it’s called and amazing service , nothing was too much trouble .
I am looking forward to riding one ![]()

My reason for getting the Tiger was that my back just couldn’t cope with the Speed Triples suspension anymore on long journeys. I still take it for our summer biking holidays - we trailer the mrs. Trident and the speed somewhere nice and do day trips. The Tiger’s there for my long solo trips. ![]()
@dog78 Totally agree! I have a 2019 1050RS and have done several 200+ mile days around Scotland, so smaller roads, with only the usual numb bum. Regards a pillion, you wouldn’t get me on the back of a Speedy unless it was an emergency!
You wouldn’t get me on the back of ANY bike… ![]()
That’s my main reason for buying the 2025 RS ,for the EC 3 suspension , i think it’s only on seven bikes this year.
It’s adjustable by the dash.
The Aprilia Factory i rode in 23 , i was shocked by it and that had the EC 2 .
I didn’t ever think they would beat the manual Ohlins , but it was impressive.
Bikes and electronics have merged into one now.
When i bought the R1 ,it was the first to have slide control , but they all have it now .
That Aprilia had turning headlights and cruise control and that was sportsbike.
They are so adaptable , you get many bikes in one.
When we were at Almeria , about 7 BMW GSs turned up and were going around the track , and they weren’t slow, they had some fun ,it proves how versatile modern bikes are .![]()
The only time I remember riding pillion was in about 1969 with a mate called Bill, who was a Norton mechanic at Taylor Mattersons. He had a very quick Dominator, and was riding it through Wandsworth at about 60mph and not slowing down much for corners. I was slightly apprehensive, but Bill was a competent rider, if mad, and in 1969 I was still immortal. Inevitably we were eventually stopped by a policeman on a white Triumph Saint.
He gave Bill a right bollocking, but acknowledged that his riding was competent, albeit quite illegal, and he would therefore let him off with a warning. As he left, he told us his name and said to look for him in Motorcycle News. We did so, and he turned out to be a member of the British police team in the ISDT.
Those were the days. Wouldn’t happen now…
Hi Dave, great story , and you are right it wouldn’t happen today .
Although that was only few years before i strated riding on bikes. You can see how that freedom has been eroded over the years.
I have ridden pillion in my younger years , when i was mechanic at the 1979 mgp IOM , the racers used to take practice bikes to learn the circuit , we had a T500 Suzuki ts twin ,Kenny had a 400 ts triple.
Well the mechanics would go out as pillions , they would take the piss.
One day i borrowed Kenny’s 400 ,Kieron had the T500 which seized on the mountain , so i went to pick him up, and when i got there he tried to get on the front, i said i borrowed this of Kenny. My mate said i am racing tomorrow so take it easy , like you did with me ![]()
Come past the Creg , the rear tyre blew out ,i didn’t that happened , he looked like he was going to kill me. But then we realized that the back tyre was flat and all was forgiven .
The milkman gave us a lift back to the pits with the bike in the back of the milk float😆
I only want a pillion seat for my girlfriend , she wanted to go on the back of the R1 which is relentless 199 at the back wheel .
So i did as before i took all the road kit off i would test before sending it to Spain, to be fair she said the seat was a bit hard and she was losing the grip in her hands.
It’s not meant for that , so the RS would be ideal , i don’t think you could even store packet of fags in that bike.
I will probably do one more year at Almeria , if i can get some fitness back after this op .
It’s shame Covid ruined all my plans ,PSI airbag leathers hardly used or the R1 , real shame . At 66 i will be pushing it, my mates dad was there in 23 , a part of the exhsust came off and threw him off. We took him to hospital ,he was complaining about his thigh , it did look sore , the nurse took one look at it and it was a snakebite . Poor sod landed on a snake
.
What are the odds… ![]()
First time i went there was 2020 ,i left everything outside next to the bag ,it was only when he got bit ,that i found out there were Scorpions , two vipers that are dangerous and few that will make you ill and centipede a brown in colour 10 cm long which will make you feel ill too.
You imagine having Scorpion in your helmet or your boots or any of your clothing , i packed everything away after that day .
A lad with a Ducati in our garage found one of them centipedes in his kit bag ,we only went for lunch .
You don’t think about it when you come from somewhere like the UK.
The snake was probably getting some heat ,it’s 4k ft above sea level and a desert ,gets cold at night.
It is where the Spaghetti Westerns were filmed , we only found that out when we went to the hospital ,as the some of the sets remain.
I would love to take the speed triple there ,not on track but the mountain roads are superb there .
Beautiful place , there’s hardly any traffic, pretty rustic and the tarmac on the roads is better than the circuit .
It gets hot , i have been there in early May and never again.
Temp gauge for outside temp was 91 , with leathers on and the airbag bladder is plastic , cook in a bag ![]()
.
Hi @Dog78, you should test ride both the tiger 1200 and the 900 variants. I have ridden all varieties of bikes over the years, including cruisers, sports, sports tourers, naked and retro bikes, and I think you will be surprised at how good and how much fun they are on the road.
I absolutely love my 900 GT Pro and cannot think of a better all round bike.
Hi Wessa, you are absolutely right.
I never ridden an Adventure bike . I haven’t even had Enduro road bike , ridden supermoto only on track . My friend who bought the Africa Twin absolutely loves it .
There’s must be something in it , it’s all i see on the road now ,Adventure bikes.
Yes i can’t say i don’t think i will like it , without testing it first. When i book a road test ,i will book a multi, then i can have a good comparison.
Thanks ![]()
