New sprocket

went to put a new chain and sprocket on my speed triple and then I realized you can’t take the sprocket off using a single sided paddock stand the only way you can do it is with a Abba stand

Likewise any maintenance servicing the eccentric adjuster hub or suspension linkages (advisable every couple of years). :+1:

yes while I have it apart I will strip it down and regrease it haven’t done it before but looks pretty straight forward and I have a Haynes manual

Yeah, not rocket science :+1:. You’ll need a good pair of circlip pliers for the world’s biggest circlip, and ideally a new axle nut for the sprocket side. It’s staked to the axle for thread locking, probably could be reused but not ideal.

Looks very similar to the MV. ABBA stand:+1:

I have stripped the rear hub down with the Entention of just Regreasing it I have noticed there is very slight play in the bearing in the eccentric hub. triumph say you have to renew the whole hub you can’t replace just the bearing do you know if that is the case or can just the bearing be replaced

The rear hub is on my list of jobs to do @Col_C

I have an Abba stand like yours but I don’t have confidence that it’s sturdy enough to be banging the rear axle out! I take it you have done this job several times with no problems?

I guess it depends whether it’s preventative maintenance or if the hub has seized preventing rotation and subsequent chain adjustment. In my case it was preventative and absolutely no banging involved, the hub assembly just slides out after circlip removal. Speaking of which, circlip is large and you’ll need large circlip pliers to suit, I struggled until a trip to the local tool factors for larger pliers.

Tip: Make a note of the eccentric orientation (axle below centre IIRC), chain tension can be achieved in two positions, only one is correct.

I losened the chain side (and wheel) nut while still on two wheels and then up on Abba stand remove caliper and with a few more turns on chain side nut check whether axle is going to slide out easily, no problems in my case just slid out.

Likewise suspension linkage, losened bolts while on two wheels, no problems in my case.

My Speedy doesn’t see any wet weather these days, the other factor for seized hubs has been reported for insufficient lubrication from factory.

Cheers Col. It’s preventative rather than seized. A job for winter I think  I have several circlip pliers so hopefully one set will work :crossed_fingers:
