Quad lock seems expensive? 🤔

Just done a theoretical Quad Lock build and the price is coming in over £200… it seems a lot but I know the system has a lot of fans on here. So what are the alternative systems to be recommended?

Quad Lock is definitely expensive. There are many alternatives on the market today. I know @HelmutVisor recently fitted a system, can’t remember the brand, basically a screen that you link your phone too. On YouTube or google search for “ CarPlay screen for motorbikes” will give you multiple choices. Prices vary loads. I must admit I have looked at replacing my QuadLock system, but I think the bigger screen would cover the bike dash, which is currently putting it of for me.

GIVI Smart Clip, around 80£

2 sizes S920L / S920M depending on your phone format.

Love mine

I’ve been lucky with the various Quad locks I own or have previously used, in that I have managed to get good deals at shows, Black Friday on their website and even second hand (boxed and genuine).

As it stands, I am fairly committed in that I have a QL mount on all 5 of my bikes, dampers where needed, wireless charging and even a mount in my van. However, I would be questioning today’s retail prices if starting from scratch!

There are definitely cheaper “copies” available on ebay. I have one of these on the Transalp and it seems to work as well as the genuine one on the Bonneville. Well at least it didn’t fall off in Normandy

I guess that is still using the QuadLock’s phone case (so you can swap between bikes)?

I’ve been using ‘el cheapo’ Chinese “knock off” copies of quadlock fittings for a couple of years with commendable success. I THINK I got mine from ‘ali express’ and I’ve been using it on the BMW Blood Bike for well over a year, in ALL weathers and MANY thousands of miles - probably well in excess of 20,000 - without a problem.

I would echo the advice from @stevelovatt about using a vibration damper - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005012351535857.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.17.5ea5417eec2Gdg&algo_pvid=756d553e-6815-4d5d-89f2-6cc651524d11&algo_exp_id=756d553e-6815-4d5d-89f2-6cc651524d11-16&pdp_ext_f={“order”%3A"173"%2C"eval"%3A"1"%2C"fromPage"%3A"search"}&pdp_npi=6%40dis!GBP!5.10!5.09!!!6.54!6.53!%4021613a6017903185469685568e0d75!12000058173152609!sea!UK!0!ABX!1!0!n_tag%3A-29910%3Bd%3A5ebbeffe%3Bm03_new_user%3A-29895%3BpisId%3A5000000211438706&curPageLogUid=IKs7WZb1hJJ6&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch|query_from%3A|x_object_id%3A1005012351535857|_p_origin_prod%3A - if you’re going to mount the 'phone on the handlebars - apparently the camera Image Stabilisation in most mobiles (and, I understand, particularly iPhones) is VERY sensitive and easy to damage through vibration.

I fitted a ‘waterproof’ case … more like ‘damp proof’ to be honest … and put the (knockoff) quadlock on that and it’s still there now - some 2 years later - and being used on my own RT/P. The only real-world problem is getting a watertight power connection if you want to keep the phone powered externally while it’s on the bars - on longer journeys using it as a sat-nav, for example.

I’ll have a quick butchers… but I’ll ask anyway… for power, is there an induction coil version?

Bloody hell… that’s only £5

Hmmm… sorry, can’t answer the question about power. The Beemer has a DIN socket on the fairing so I just plug into that and run a USB lead from it. Again, not waterproof so not really good in very wet conditions but otherwise works well.

Yes, I’m using my existing case and mount with it

Yep, we have a Carpuride which just mirrors your phone screen so can use whatever nav app you normally have and it’s touch screen, attached using a Evotech mount which is bizarrely with a Quadlock mount. You can then just keep your phone in your pocket. It does need to be powered either using a USB or hardwired in.

I’m a big fan of Quadlock ,not only the products but their customer service as well. However I was intrigued by these add on screens which give car play I have now fitted an Aoocci C6 display which replaces the need for a Quadlock mount and also gives me dashcam front and rear and TPMS showing tyre temperature as well as pressure. As for will the display obscure the OE dash? The answer is no. The attached photo shows my rider’s viewpoint on my Striple. I’m only 1.7m, so not tall.
