Does anyone have a speed 400, if so can you advise the RH switch gear with the throttle is it meant to have some play in it. It’s locked in on the bars, so doesn’t twist, but has a bit of movement in it ??

Yes, I think there is a bit of (side to side?) movement as well as a bit of freeplay on the twistgrip. My 400 is gone, but I remember discussion on the 400 forum about fitting shims to reduce movement and smooth out the occasional jerky throttle response.
Worth looking in/joining the Triumph 400 forum, lots of hints and knowledge on there.
Thank you, I’ve never had that before on any of my bikes, so thought I needed to replace it. I have bought the spacers to fit, just didn’t want to undo it encase it all fell apart 
It’s not something I did to my 400, I was quite happy with the twistgrip operation….. although I was not so keen on the snatchy take away which, right or wrong, I put down to the effect of Euro 5 emissions requirements and the single cylinder characteristics.

It’s not the play in throttle I’m really concerned about, it’s the movement of switch gear housing when you’re not using it. So when your riding it it’s fine, it’s just with it sitting in the garage the switch gear housing has play it and not sure why or is it normal when not in use

According to “the internet” it seems to be common for the switchgear to be “loose” - fix seems to be check locating pin, and pack out with insulating tape before retightening switchgear.
