As the temperatures are going melty again tomorrow I thought I’d head out for a relaxing day’s riding today, didn’t turn out that way though…

After about 30 minutes my nose started feeling a little sore and I realised I forgotten to put on any sun cream, essential for an open face helmet in sun. So I headed back home to put some on.

I set of again on a different route and had an hour or so nice ride until I noticed that satnav added 20 minutes to my estimated journey time due to avoiding a closed road. I didn’t trust it so carried on the original route but sure enough, road closed. I followed the diversion signs rather than backtracking as satnav wanted, which was my second mistake. After a 15 mile detour I was on narrow roads following lots of other traffic which then came to a complete gridlock in a village with an oncoming traffic queue. Parked cars and narrow roads weren’t permitting anyone to make progress and the gap wasn’t big enough for me to push my way through the gridlocked vehicles.

I turned around to get out the village and consulted satnav and found the next possible road, a major A road was also closed. That probably explained the traffic chaos here, this was the only road east/west between two other closed roads.

By now I had had enough of the heat from the sun and told satnav to go the fastest way home, it said one hour travel time which seamed OK until I saw I was riding towards Milton Keynes to join the deathtrap motorway. (Or ‘smart’ motorway as the government calls it.)

I told satnav to avoid motorways which added another half hour to the trip time, but I made yet another mistake by not checking the route, so ended up going through the centre of a city, namely Northampton. Heavy traffic, traffic lights, and blazing sun made me even more grumpy.

When I eventually got near home the local garage had a queue of traffic waiting for the pumps so I didn’t fill up as is my usual habit after a ride. Instead I headed straight home for a cold drink, wishing I hadn’t bothered heading out today. Ho hum.

Bad luck @BrownMouse

Sometimes everything works against you.

Out for a day ride yesterday, stopped for a coffee, two cyclists come up to us - “You heading for Glen Devon?”, Yep, “The road’s closed!

Then it started raining. (No heatwave in Scotland, stop complaining you lot  )

And my mate forgot his waterproofs… wet denim… yuk!

Oh well, better luck next time!

Not actually today, but the day before yesterday, I decided to change the Triumph’s oil and filter. I wheeled the bike out on to the drive, laid out a big foam pad to lie on and set to with the spanners. Half way through the job, I had to get up to fetch something. In getting up, I caught my foot in the foam pad, lost my balance and fell hard with the side of my head against the timing cover (or whatever the thing that looks like a timing cover actually is nowadays). It hurt (still does if you touch it) and I literally saw stars.

So remember, folks, always wear a helmet when working on your bike…

As we get older these kind of mishaps seem to occur far to often.

I have that weird inner ear thing, something to do with thickening of fluid in the ear, where if my head gets to a certain angle or low position I get a sort of dizzy/migraine/travel sickness feeling which can take hours to clear… Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo is it’s posh name.

Lying down to work on cars or bikes is the worst culprit… so I don’t any more!

Sounds really unpleasant

Fortunately doesn’t happen often, and gives me a great excuse to limit, or even avoid, jobs I don’t want to do!

The bang on the head did actually trigger a migraine aura for an hour or so.

Hope there was no damage to the bike ? ( asking for a friend …)

Thanks for all your expressions of sympathy.

Luckily it was only my head: I could have fallen on my arse and caused brain damage.

Last couple of days I’ve been taking the Tiger to go and actually work… :see_no_evil_monkey:
A friend of mine has taken on a big job and needed staff, so I said I’d help. Lots of sanding and painting. Nice to be able to help out, and the extra cash won’t go amiss either…

Edit: I just realised this should have been in the done with your Triumph section… :see_no_evil_monkey:
