1978 Bonneville Project

Yes, it should work like that… at the very least, someone with more knowledge and power ought to be able to signpost it or whatever the terminology is

I have never had, or am likely to get, a T140, but a thread like that will be essential viewing/reading.
I nominate @Iron for the Nobel prize for engineering

Back down the garage - hooray!

Bottom end of engine back into the frame.
New riveted type main bearing rather than the original spot welded type.
New sludge trap and plug, shell bearings, clutch, primary chain etc etc etc.

Always, always, when buying one of these, almost 50 year old motorcycles, account to go for the sludge trap. It’ll cost about £200 just in gaskets, oil seals, and bearings etc. without any parts that may need replacing but at least you’ll know if it’s healthy.

Two bikes are already committed to auction, I’m trying to get this one done in time to follow them. :slightly_smiling_face:

Top end almost complete.

I’m struggling with the new photo/art programme as I binned photoshop due to their greedyness. So, although lots of progress pictures taken I can’t be bothered to figure it out just yet for multiple photos.
Also my foot is bloody hurting causing a massive loss of patience. I’m off to take a handfull of tablets. Thankyou…over :slightly_smiling_face:

@Iron … I’m presuming this is still your Achilles Tendon issue??? Hope it’s sorted soon dude!

Thanks yes, proper nuisance it is too. Sat around for too long and now I’m getting all behind. While the weather’s not too cold I’d like to get this finished and gone with the others.
The foot is miles better than it was but between the hop-a-long pain limping and the Admin Staff trying to look after me, not much is getting done. :slightly_smiling_face:

Engine build mostly complete…

Carbs, brakes and a few brackets to make - zorsts, ignition switch, clocks and headlight. Then onto the wiring, oh joy. Ordered a few bits and bobs but hopefully a week or so.

Done:

Starts, runs, electrics all work, gears all work, sorted and ready to go.
I’ll keep updated on auction details on all three bikes when I know.
Thankee…over :slightly_smiling_face:

You could do a photoshoot of all three together mate! Gorgeous

If the sun comes out and dries up the mud in the lane I’ll get some photos, if not I’ll try to get some of them going on the van. I’m assuming they’ll all go together, and soon - hence my hobbling around trying to get this one done. I’d rather only pay for one delivery trip - the way the prices have gone on these old farts, I’ll be glad to be in the black to give me enough for the next planned project.

The bike looks fantastic, a very very beautiful job @Iron .

Thanks gang. Given the oncoming cold, this may be the only chance of them all together under the Triumph Muriel

That’s eye-candy, right there! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I am still coveting that red one.

Sorry, keeping the red one. T’was my first, a jubilee year bike, it’ll end up on display on a shelf when I can’t kick it over any more.
The auction people have contacted me to say the bikes will be picked up this side of Christmas to be photographed for the auction catalogue.
They will be included in the Haynes Museum auction on 12th March 2026.
I’ve included all rebuild details (photos on disc etc) and invoices for each bike where I have them.
I have agreed that they are being sold with no reserve.
Given the way prices have gone on these 70s Triumphs they will be worth a bid or two if you fancy one. They will deliver.
They will sell, no matter what the Auctioneer’s hammer falls on.
I’ll be there on the preview day, hopefully I’ll see you there too…laters Gents
