Omg! Lost for words!
This was posted by George’s sister on the Fleecebook.
George was well known in the area - he was originally from Sherborne-in-Elmet where Squires is. I’ll be there for one last rideout with him; I suspect there will be many others. I’ll post details when I have them should anyone here want to honour a fellow biker.
So sorry but i won’t make it. But my heart and soul will follow. So terribly sad. God has from what i have read a top man that we have lost to our midst and biker fraternity. RIP George and keep some space up there for the rest of us.
George’s funeral will be on Thursday 19th September.
I appreciate most people are too far away and didn’t know him personally but the same could have been said about Dave Myers. So if you do want come along, here are the details. I’m happy to be a contact/coordination point if needed.
Either way, keep your fingers crossed that the sun shines for my friend’s last road trip.
The funeral notice has just been posted online. There’s a donation option to the Yorkshire air ambulance.
Today was George’s funeral. When I arrived at the meeting point for the bikers who would follow the hearse there were already over 40 bikes. As we set off the noise was glorious. Exhausts wailed, waving a growling, howling fist at fate and sounding a fanfare for George as he began his final ride.
No one wanted to be there. No one wanted to miss it…
The reading was some poignant lyrics from Megadeth. The display of photos of his life accompanied by Pink Floyd. At the end, we left the family alone with the coffin and flowers to say their final goodbyes, filing out quietly to the strains of Holiday In Cambodia by The Dead Kennedy’s. Conventional it wasn’t, appropriate it was…
Everyone present had their lives touched in some way by George. He’s gone, but he has not left us. We will remember.
RIP George Marshall. Aged 51.
