I was looking to get a pair of those Future Eyes lamps for the Striple. The 660 and 900 Tigers have OE options of auxiliary lamps so as the they are both triples and have exactly the same alternator and battery I enquired from the after sales guys at Triumph what spare juice I had available for running accessories like lamps, heated grips a clothing etc and also what the wattage is of the OE lamps available for the Tigers.

Like getting blood out of a stone. After a lot of excuses why they were unable to provide advice on the fitting of non OE kit they refused to answer further questions. What I did manage to prise out of them was that I had “maybe 5 amps, but not much more”. I’ve even asked two Triumph dealerships what the wattage of the Tiger’s OE auxiliary lamps are, zero response.

So, depending on what voltage you use for your calcs, the alternator is kicking out 14 volts, I came to the conclusion that my limit was 80 watts.

So I will most probably get a pair of the 40 watt versions of these and run them straight off of the battery via a fused relay located under the pillion seat that is triggered by an engine running source. The reason for the relay location is so that I can easily pull the fuse if I find that the alternator is struggling with the extra load. Could usefully use an amp meter on the bike like back in the day.

Or use one of these:

Works really well, up to 4 connections for aftermarket gadgets.

Yes, I have connected to those led-lights via Healtech Thunder box. Just like my bike’s front - rear camera system, round time - voltage - outside temperature gauge and the tom tom navigator. Oh, I’m too absent-minded person … I could easily one day forget to leave one of those ‘‘on-stage’’ as stop riding emptying the battery of the bike.

@Vulpes Many thanks for the link. I had heard of these before but thought they were nothing more than a bus bar type device but having read some of the blurb I was pleased to see the intelligent operation of not connecting until the alternator is pushing out sufficient juice which goes towards justifying double the cost of using fused relays.

Their gear indicator units also interest me for the Ducati, which is totally analogue with no electronic aids.

Happy to be of help mate. :+1:

According to my KTM’s manual, DRL’s should be used in bright conditions.
