Today I’ve started sorting out the aftermath of touring. Bike is going to sit filthy for a few days but bike clothing and luggage just got a good hose down and all the tat I take with me is being cleaned, sorted and replenished ready for the next trip.
So I don’t end up with the hassle and inconvenience of getting tyres fitted whilst on tour, I ordered a set of tyres and inner tubes for ‘stock’. I’ve been reluctant to do that before as there is nowhere covered outside to store them and they smell too much for inside. But my dad now has space in garage so hoping he will accommodate.
I normally clean calipers and change brake pads when getting new tyres, so got some of those too. Will want to do that soon for the rear as that’ll let me examine for any aftereffects of the somewhat botched wheel fitting a few days ago.
To belatedly answer the question a week ago from @Bolosun…
The place I stayed at the first night was Gilchristland Organic Farm Retreat, this was the ‘Annex’ attached to the farmhouse, I think there are other cottages or rooms on site, I can’t vouch for what they’re like.
The bathroom was also large though the kitchen seemed to be work in progress. Kitchen had all the basic things you’d expect except the sink and tap weren’t plumbed in. The bathroom sink in the adjacent room is very large and usable though, and they provide a washing up bowl etc. so you could easily do full self catering if you wanted. Though for breakfast I let the hostess bring me one on a plate ![]()
Speaking of hosts, they’re friendly and seem very nice people.
