- Specifically, the investigation found that Zahawi failed to declare that HMRC were investigating his taxes as a conflict of interest when he became chancellor
- Zahawi also failed to declare that he paid a penalty to HMRC when he was appointed to Liz Truss and then Rishi Sunak’s cabinet, the investigation found
- In Zahawi’s letter responding to his sacking, he told Sunak to expect his “full support” from the back benches

And it’s strange that their ‘innocent errors’ never result in their offering to pay too much tax, only too little. Funny that.

I’m not defending him at all, and as I have already said I’m pleased to see him go.
However I must admit that when I was running my own business I did look at every opportunity to minimise the amount of tax I had to pay. I worked with my accountant on every way possible within the law to pay the absolute minimum to the tax man.

Yes, but you were building a business, not an already wealthy individual with millions.
And most of us are on PAYE so can’t even “make tax efficiencies” even if we wanted to!
