With a name like ‘Honda’, Siochiro doesn’t need much of an introduction, but introduced to the world he was in1906.
At 15, without any formal education, Honda left home and headed to Tokyo to look for work. He obtained an apprenticeship at a garage in 1922 where he stayed for six years as a car mechanic before returning home to start his own auto repair business in 1928.
In 1948, Soichiro started producing a complete motoried bicycle, the Type A, which was driven by the first mass-produced engine designed by Honda.
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. was established from humble beginnings in a wooden shack.
The Type D arrived in 1949 and was a true motorcycle with a pressed-steel frame designed and produced by Honda and with a 2-stroke, 98 cc, 3 hp engine. It became the first model in the Dream series of motorcycles.
]]In 1958, Honda rolled out the first Super Cub, and they’re still making them today, over 60 million units later.
Honda retired from the company in 1973 but remained involved with the title ‘Supreme Advisor’ until his death in 1991.
