Following a heart attack a few days before, Count Domenico Agusta passed away on this day in 1971, aged 63.
Spurred on by the ban on Italian manufacturing of aircraft after the second world war, Agusta founded Meccanica Verghera in 1945 to manufacture a light-weight, 98cc motorcycle.
The rest, as they say, is history.
