Anyone who’s had even a passing interest in motorcycle grand prix racing over the past 40 years will have encountered the name ‘Gresini’. Fausto Gresini had a successful career as a 125cc GP rider, winning the world championship in 1985 and again in 1987 when he won 10 races - he crashed in the final race but won all the others.
After kicking off his racing boots in 1994 he founded Gresini Racing in1997. An independent team with a strong ‘family’ ethos, they’ve won three world titles to date - the 2001 250cc championship with Daijiro Kato, the 2010 Moto2 championship with Tony Elias, and the 2018 Moto3 championship with current MotoGP world champ, Jorge Martin.
The team is still going strong and winnng MotoGP races but in 2021, Fausto contracted Covid-19 and succumbed to complications from a lung infection
