Back in 1972, before health and safety had been invented, Evel Knievel was plying his trade in death-defying stunts on his Harley-Davidson. One such jump, at Cow Palace in Daly, California, went horribly wrong at the landing. Evel tumbled off the bike, which slammed in to him as he hit other obstacles, breakiing his back in two places.
