Suzuki’s GT750, the first Japanese bike with a water-cooled engine, was launched in Japan in 1971 after being shown at the previous year’s Tokyo Motor Show.
Marketed as the GT Le Mans in the US and Canada, it was nicknamed the “Kettle” in Britain and the “Water Buffalo” in the US. it tipped the scales at a chunky 214 kg (472ibs).
The 739cc, two-stroke water-cooled three-cylinder engine produced 67 bhp @ 6500 rpm. You could work your way up the 5-speed gearbox to a top speed of 110 mph.
The GT750 was a really attractive bike and the front brake looked like a beautiful but rather over engineered product that was less effective than a single disc!! The bike did have a great exhaust note, especially if fitted with “spannies”.
I think the (quite attractive) pink colour was termed “dog pecker pink” by our transAtlantic cousins!
I guess I have some ineluctable attraction to triples - I own nine of them! Sadly a Water Buffalo isn’t amongst the collection.
