5 December - The Life of an SS100

The last day of the 1931 show and the last chance to see the Brough Superior SS100 ‘Show Model’ at Olympia. It was bound to draw the atttention of the discerning gentleman who appreciated the finer things in life, and a good turn of speed.

This show model was given an enhanced finish including a chromium plated fuel tank, mudguards and wheels featuring a gold-lined black centre. Castle (Brampton) forks were fitted, as was a separate oil tank among various other special features.

These pictures are of that very 1931 motorcycle. After nearly 100 years it still reportedly turned over on second kick when last sold, though was in need of a little restorative care. Still, who wouldn’t be at that age?

Brough Superior Club records show that ‘GW 3188’ was present at the inaugural Brough Superior Club Rally, held in September 1958 at Hearsall Common, Coventry.

One ‘Sid Mason’ purchased it in 1963 for £75 and sold it on 10 years later for £150. That owner, an ex-Vickers engineer who’d worked on Concorde back in the day, put the bike up for auction in 2023, where it sold for £281,750.
