KTM has long been known for producing successful off-road bikes, winning their first championship in 1974 (250cc motorcross) and going on to win over 260 more, making them one of the most successful brands in motorsports.
In 2003, KTM entered Grand Prix arena, fielding a team in the 125cc class. After a three year hiatus, they were back in 2012, winning the Moto3 championship. In 2017, KTM began competing in the premier class.
On this day in 2020, Brad Binder, in his rookie year, made history by putting his KTM RC16 on the top step of the podium in the senior MotoGP class. It was a first, both for KTM and for a South African rider. It was also the first time since 1973 that a race had been won on a machine not from Italy or Japan,
