Italian Grand Prix motorcycle racer, Bruno Ruffo, was born in Verona in 1920.
Ruffo won the inaugural 250cc World Championship in 1949 riding for the Moto Guzzi factory and took the 125cc championshi the following year on a Mondial.
He reclaimed the 250cc crown in 1951 but an accident at the opening round saw him retire from racing.
If you’re ever in Verona, look for a commemorative wrought iron sculpture, commissioned by his son Renzo Ruffo.
