9 July - Casey Defects to Honda

Back in 2007, Ducati were far from the dominant force they are today in MotoGP. Casey Stoner was riding their bike and seemed to be the only one able to find its potential, winning the championship in his first year with the team.

After four years, Stoner announced on this day in 2010 that he would be riding for Repsol Honda in 2011. Valentino Rossi took Casey’s seat at Ducati but even he couldn’t get the best out of the bike.

If there were any doubters they were soon silenced. Casey took the RC212V to championship victory in 2011, racking up ten wins along the way.
