If you’re thinking the name ‘Malcolm Smith’ sounds familiar, it may be because you’ve seen the 1971 documentary ‘On Any Sunday’ where he starred alongside Steve McQueen and Mert Lawwill.
If you’re a fan off-foad bike sport, particularly in the United States, then you may know Malcolm for his impressive career. Born in 1941, he began racing in 1956 on a 500cc Matchless G80. He won eight gold medals at the International Six Day Trial between 1966 and 1976, the Baja 1000 twice (and another three times in cars), the Baja 500 four times. the Mint 400 and the Roof of Africa Rallye twice and was the overall winner of the Moroccan Atlas Rallye in 1987.
Malcolm was inducted in to the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1978, the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1996 and the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998.
