A cautionary tale

A group of people working on a project in this area are booked into our holiday cottage for the coming week, arriving tonight. One of them phoned us an hour ago, saying he couldn’t get our keysafe to work. After much discussion, he Whatsapped a video of what he was doing, so that we could tell him if he was doing anything wrong. I didn’t recognise the front door at all, and asked him to film where the house was in the street. He did so, and we quickly realised that not only was he in the wrong street, but he was in a completely different village, over 15 miles away from where he should be! He had the right postcode, but must have entered it wrongly, as when he re-entered it, the satnav directed him away in the right direction. Assuming he doesn’t get lifted for attempted breaking and entering, that is.
So, those of you who use satnavs, be very careful with what you enter!

Edit: When we had our house in Skye, we had several cases where visitors were sent by their satnavs from Fort Willam not to the Skye Bridge but to Mallaig, where there is a ferry to Armadale. Unfortunately the ferry only runs in the summer…

There are two “Greyhound” Pubs near to us that both do accommodation.
Loads of times we’ve seen people troop into our local one with all their cases and kids bags, order a pint and soft drinks for the kids and say “ can you put that on our room please as we are staying tonight….”
Only for the manager to ask their names and be told, “ you’re not with us, try the Greyhound down in Aldbury…!”
Repack the car , moan to each other and off they go…!

Similar situation for us, we have no street name or house number, just a house name and hamlet name (occasionally causes problems on internet forms). On some database the house name is suffixed by “Cottage”, on others not.
I think Google Maps will under certain situations ignore the post code in preferance to matching the house name.
First time a friend came down to find us he ended up at a house in a village 10mls away, same house name, wrong village and post code.
I could later repeat his error, Google thinks it knows better and automatically “edits” the post code. :rage:

Edit:
You can share your live location via WhatsApp to an individual or group for a given time. Perhaps a lesser known feature on a commonly used app.

Common feature for me - it’s a requirement if the Blood Bike tracker isn’t fitted or working. It IS a really useful feature, though!
