Just like last week, I had boring admin stuff to do in the morning, but escaped at 1 o’ clock for a sunny afternoon out on the bike. As @Octoberon observed, it’s the time of year when any ride might be your last before winter closes in.
To begin with, I headed east as far as Dumfries, but then decided I’d rather take one of my favourite runs on Galloway roads, so I turned round and rode back towards, Castle Douglas on the old military road. Crossing the A75, I cut across to Townhead of Greenlaw and took the turning for Laurieston. I stopped at Glenlochar and ate my lunch sitting on the parapet of the bridge over the River Dee.
I took the Gatehouse road from Laurieston. The forest is starting to put on its autumn colours.
Passing through the forest, the road climbs up over the high moors and emerges to beautiful views over the Fleet Valley.
I crossed the A75 at Gatehouse and took back roads via Borgue to Kirkcudbright, with some great views over the Dee Estuary.
From Kirkcudbright, I took the coast road home, via Dundrennan.
Nothing adventurous, and I’ve posted some of these views before, but every day is different, and it’s one of my favourite routes when I haven’t got time for a longer run.
