I though this would be interesting to some - @Oldskool , were you there?
Thatās a cracking photo
Iād still got 3 years to go at skool in 1977.
My first Dutch TT was 1984 I think.
Will be back again next Juneā¦
And not an adventure bike to be seen!
But lots of Rickman fairings and custom paintjobs!
Surely they all were adventure bikes?
As in āwill we get there?ā
That was peak Sheene era.
The circuit was probably still road based I guess back then .
It was from 1924 till 1954 (in the early years with unpaved stretches ) As of 1955 itās not road based anymore.
I have ridden around it illegallyā¦!
We went up to the WSB back in around 1997 I guess. We stayed over in our usual hotel and on the Monday morning decided to have a look in at the circuit before heading for the ferry in Zeebrugge
When we got to the circuit the gate at the end of the old start and finish straight was open so re rode in ā¦
We were 2 up on my old VFR 750L . Me and my mate on the pillion looked at each other and said ā whatās the worse thing that can happenā¦ā
So we did a very steady lap around the circuit.
There were a few tractors collecting up the straw bales but little going on .
So after one lap we swapped places and my mate rode the next lap ā¦!
Got away with that but decided that we shouldnāt push our luck ā¦!
Rode out the same way we came in and as we left the circuit it started raining ā¦!
It didnāt stop raining until we got home . Thoroughly soaked
I have a similar story but for Spa after the 24 hour endurance round. The following year there were two armed coppers stopping any tomfoolery.
As have I, except that Spa still was a road based track at the timeā¦ The day after the race I went over Start/Finish (which was still on the straight before Eau Rouge / Raidillon then) at a silly speed and then through that exhilarating combination. Canāt do that anymoreā¦
