Avon tyres in short supply

So, today I’ve managed to buy the last front tyre for my bike in the country. (Well, I hope so, the web site now shows out of stock after ordering but I’ve not had confirmation it’s been dispatched.) No other places I could find have stock of that Avon Cobra Chrome size, and few have much stock of any size, though I also found a rear tyre at one place so ordered it to make sure I have some rubber for a trip to Spain in the spring.

I did ring a place about stock and they said that Goodyear (who bought Avon) were prioritising making their own brands, and were making Avons if and when they thought about it. :frowning: That’s a real pain, because I don’t think there is any radial alternatives for my rear bike tyre, they’re all bias ply.

Of course, if the tyres are in short supply, then a lot of people may move to other brands and they’ll be even less incentive for Goodyear to make them, possibly causing them to discontinue them. :frowning:

So, I have the tyres now  The rear was made in June 2023, before the UK factory closed that year but the front is only 2 months old (December 2024) and made in France, so they are still being made which is good to know. I see they have kept the union jack motif on the sidewalls, (maybe to reuse the existing moulds?)
