Found my old Bandit Alien helmet. It still has the ‘green spot’ sticker on it to alert anyone picking me out of the roadside hedge that next of kin/medication/contact details are contained within.
It was supposed to be quite a good idea at the time.
The ‘crash card’ was still in the liner - supported by South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Highway Services, Sussex Safer Roads and the Highways Agency.
Written some time ago (2011), I’ve also read that more than 2.5 million cards have been given out since.
I assume the dot alerts ambulance crews that there’s some details somewhere inside the helmet.
I therefore wonder why the ‘CRASH’ list covers most of the card - giving 999 number to call, how many vehicles, is anyone unresponsive etc. if it’s not for the general public. To be honest, I’d rather my helmet was left on if I can’t talk.
And another thing - why is the card protected under copyright?
A Volvo car designer came up with the inertia 3 point seatbelt in the late 1950s. In an unprecedented move, in the interest of safety, Volvo left the patent open, making it possible for all car companies to use the design for free. The result was the most prolific safety feature in existence, used in every passenger car. It is estimated to have saved more than a million lives.
moan, moan, moan. Anyway the green dot is coming off and the card is in the bin 'cause I’m painting the helmet.
