Cumbria/Lancashire classic

Ok, just a quick blat out, thought I’d stick it here for those visiting the Lancashire/Cumbria borderlands.

So I set off frae Ulverston (world capital and galactic pivot point) The joy cuffs are on if you stick to the A590 from Greenodd to Newby Bridge… there’s other routes to Kendal though, but I were in a late afternoon scurry to catch the sun!
Right … tek heed !!! Do NOT take the A65 to Kirkby Lonsdale… not only will you snarl up in traffic, but you’ll see fek-all!!! Instead, go from Oxenholme railway station on the B6254… much prettier and smile inducing route! (You may thank me later!)

Yella tedium… plus Calf top, Crag hill and Leck fell in’t distance.

Once at Kirkby Lonsdale, there’s a bit to do if you are one for gadding about and supping tea, coffee or beer… but I’m not on a mucking about time frame… so out onto the main road, then dodge left past Devil’s Bridge (can be a big bike magnet, but Sunday evening about 5… there’s only 6 there) onto Barbon estate, home to many a fun hill climb race, then keep following the A683 towards Sedbergh, another entertaining tarmac strip! But you cross the river Lune at one point and the A683 does a 110 degree corner to the right, but the B6256 tracks straight on instead of following the beck to Sedbergh… Take this corner cut and be rewarded with a splendid view of the Howgills!

Join up with the Kendal Road (A684) and enjoy the corners before the motorway. The sun is getting low on me, retarding my right wrist action for a bit of self preservation, but it’s still a fun road. (It has opened a question mark to be discussed elsewhere though)
Outta Kendal and along the pleasing B5284 through Crook, the low sun still being an eye irritant and keeping the speeds down… but it’s a good enough road to be fun at a lot of different speeds. Onto the Windermere drain pipe (the A592 to Newby Bridge) a road that should be fun, but invariably full of the “grockly-types” on their way yam… but I’m in no rush now, the end is in sight!

That’s a very nice TDM. I only sold mine because it was growing unaccountably taller and heavier each year…
Not bad scenery down your way either.

I used that road quite often, cutting across to it from Winster from behind the Brown Horse. That bit is called “Stile Brow” IIRC, pretty.

It’s a sod of a climb on a push-bike too! :joy:
