I’ve been looking in to this some more and I think what may be happening is that sometimes the cached content is being denied to the requester (you) because there’s a problem with the permissions on the file. I’m not sure wny that is, still working on it.
I may disable the CDN later and see if everyoene’s problems go away. If it does, I can use the other server to carry on resolving the problem in the background without disrupting anyone. The change will requires the site to be taken offline and rebuilt, whih takes around 15 minutes, so I’ll do it later tonight.
As you will see above, another iPad user with no problems. I did see Steve mention access via an app. I have only accessed the site via a tab in Safari, so a question to others, how do you / have you accessed the site in the past?
Always login via Chrome browser mostly on android phone and sometimes on Windows laptop/desktop, never had a problem.
I vaguely remember (I think) something about a dedicated app but never used one, can’t find any reference to one now?
There is a Discourse app but it doen’t offer much more than your browser, especially if you already have a shortcut set up. The app is on the App Store if you want to try it. I can’t remember if there’s an Android version or not.
Without going in to boring and, on my part, speculative technical assumptions, suffice to say I think that it all revolves around caching, with the root of it at the CDN end.
There must be. I’ve got one on my Android phone.
I’m not going to say that I’ve so far had no trouble getting it on my phone or my Windows 11 laptop because that would be asking for trouble, but…
I’ve done some work in the background but you might have to clear your cache and, if you’re using one, try accessing without the VPN.
I’m clearing the CDN caches at the moment as a step towards resolving some of the request errors. Clear your local caches if you have a problem and post if that hasn’t worked. Another piece of work will be done but that requires the forum to be offline for about 20 minutes so I’ll do it later this evening.
The fact that the problems are sporadic and intermittent still suggests to me that it’s a caching issue, but the root cause is the forum end, I think. I had an issue myself last week that mysteriously went away after a couple of days.
I’m still pushing fixes, updates and reviewing network metrics to see if I can pin down what’s going on. It’s tricky without being able to replicate the problem or see the console data from your browsers. Working in the dark takes longer but I’ll get it sorted.
