Dry warm and sunny today, so it would have been rude not to go for a ride. As usual, I set off without a clue where I was going, but by the time I got down the track to the road I had decided to head for Loch Doon, as I hadn’t been there for a couple of years.
The A713 from Castle Douglas to Ayr is a great road to ride, and has beautiful scenery all the way. Leaving CD, I passed Loch Ken, New Galloway and Dalry, and stopped at Carsphairn for a couple of photos of the Water of Deugh.
North of Carsphain, the road climbs higher, with a fine view down to another river, the Carsphairn Lane.
Approaching Dalmellington, I turned off left for the last few miles to Loch Doon, and stopped for a lunch break in a clearing within sight of the loch.
Once suitably fortified with fruit juice and curry pasty, I rode on down to the loch itself, shining bright blue against its backdrop of hills.
It was no hardship to ride back home by the same route:
some roads are so good that you just want to ride them again. There were quite a few other riders on the road, all with the same idea.
