Doon the watter

Dry warm and sunny today, so it would have been rude not to go for a ride. As usual, I set off without a clue where I was going, but by the time I got down the track to the road I had decided to head for Loch Doon, as I hadn’t been there for a couple of years.
The A713 from Castle Douglas to Ayr is a great road to ride, and has beautiful scenery all the way. Leaving CD, I passed Loch Ken, New Galloway and Dalry, and stopped at Carsphairn for a couple of photos of the Water of Deugh.

North of Carsphain, the road climbs higher, with a fine view down to another river, the Carsphairn Lane.

Approaching Dalmellington, I turned off left for the last few miles to Loch Doon, and stopped for a lunch break in a clearing within sight of the loch.

Once suitably fortified with fruit juice and curry pasty, I rode on down to the loch itself, shining bright blue against its backdrop of hills.

It was no hardship to ride back home by the same route:
some roads are so good that you just want to ride them again. There were quite a few other riders on the road, all with the same idea.

I thought the same of the A712 I rode last May. Beautiful.

When the weather is like that, Scotland is fabulous .
Great ride out.
Makes me want to be there …!

Last time I was up was when we did the NC 500 in the car. That was September and we had mostly sunshine. That was also the first time I had been that far north.
Loved it.

There are many fine places to ride a motorcycle in this world but I would argue (as an Englishman) that there are none finer than Scotland on a beautiful summer’s day.
