Dreck… (is this really it?)

Who reads the news? I think most of us probably keep at least one beady eye on it…

So of all the information worthy news story’s, auntie beeb leads with the facts that there are some people saying how unhappy they are with the defensive statement made by a celebrity who has been accused of being creepy.
That’s it… Sunday evening, the first of December… the leading headline is the response to a response to an accusation made of a uk celebrity!!! That’s the biggest news there is…

I don’t see why people are shocked or interested. Always came across as a complete bellus endus as far as I was concerned.

Never heard of him before, nor watched his programme, so have zero interest in him. (We gave up watching TV some time ago.) Sounds like he’s been acting like a creep around women, like too many TV ‘personalities’ who’ve been getting away with it for too long. I remember Savile being the darling of the Establishent for decades.

You can take bloke out of the East End but you can’t take The East End out of the bloke. … A barrow boy market trader who’s done well for some obscure reason…!
We know someone who has worked with him and he was not likeable. She could see the barrow boy attitude in him and he just carried on being the same even though he was on TV.

I’m not a great fan of these “trials by media”. I think if complaints are made, the allegations ought to be investigated quietly. If found to be true, there should be consequences. Careers have been destroyed by unfounded accusations.

Unfortunately this approach doesn’t sell newspapers or generate website clicks. It seems a lot of people don’t go to the Police with allegations, they go to the media.

I agree in principle, but large organisations tend to close ranks and cover up rather than investigate, especially when senior people are accused or might have to bear responsibility. Remember the Royal Mail scandal and Jimmy Savile. It’s only when the media makes a fuss that they are forced to act.

Something to be said for that as well, but I can’t help being a bit suspucious if allegations are being raised decades after the alleged fact…

I think it all just snowballs; it takes a lot for one person to make an allegation against someone perceived as powerful, but once one person speaks out, the floodgates open. Happens away from the “celeb” world too.

It doesn’t surprise me many have come forward to complain about his conduct. I thought some of the comments he made towards female members of staff on a few of the the Inside the Factory programme I’ve watched in the past were inappropriate, almost as if he was in some sort of time warp. Wickipedia says he’s on his 4th wife which makes you wonder if he’s got a bit of a turbulent private life.

Here’s an excellent article about a particularly egregious example of a large organisation covering up wrongdoing for years…
