They rave about the looks of the DesertX, but personally I think it’s ugly! I much prefer the looks of the 900RP.

I expect it appeals to those who nostalgically recall the old Dakar racing. Supposed a great bike, mind.
I don’t doubt it’s a great bike, and I get the Dakar look. Still think it’s ugly though 
I didn’t buy my 900RP specifically for its off-road ability, more for its comfort and touring ability with the added bonus of being able to venture off road if I choose. Judging by that review it’s probably the best choice of the two for my needs. Being better looking is just a bonus
