Energica runs out of energy

I know electric motorcycles don’t have many fans round there here parts but it’s never good to see a bike manufacturer go to the wall.

Not a massive surprise for me. I reckon it will take another decade or so before electric motorbikes will make any significant impact on the ice market. By then a lot of the old school bikers will be long gone or not riding, me included.

They are still massively too expensive and impractical to replace big bikes and unless there’s a major breakthrough in battery technology in the next ten years I genuinely fear for the future of mainstream motorcycling in the UK outside of the commuters.

It’s no coincidence that none of the mainstream motorcycle manufacturers have an electric big bike in their range, or appear to have any plans to introduce one.

To be honest, there are enough petrol engined bikes already in existence to last for decades. Most of us have several. What worries me is that the government will eventually decide to put punitive taxation on petrol to force the change to electric, and/or that, once most cars are electric, fuel suppliers will deem it uneconomic to maintain filling stations any longer.
