Good news for @Hubaxe and the rest of us who like riding in France. Well done to the FFMC who campaigned tirelessly and tenaciously for this.
That 1mtr width limit is a bit petty. I just about squeak under with panniers.
But I bet GS owners won’t, and Wim’s Tiger1200?
I just had a look - width between panniers is 47cm, and panniers roughly 25cm each, so I’ll have 3 cm to spare… I don’t meet the requirements for weight and height though.
It might see me filtering merrily through whilst Helmut who gets to carry all of the luggage on his Multistrada cannot
Allowed or not, we do that forever. It’s now authorized with some restrictions (50km/h max, only if the cars are slower etc etc)
I noticed on the “Paris peripherique”…
You don’t tend to remember filtering, but we were stuck in a traffic jam on an approach to a French autoroute some years ago, unsure of what to do in view of our considerable bulk (2 x ZZR1200 and a Sprint, all 2 up and packed to buggery) Then two gendarmes pitch up on their Beemers, very cool in their short sleeves and sunnies. One gave a wee swivel of the head, the international gesture for Follow Me. Gave him a nod back and we were off…fuck my boots, they seemed unaware of all the cars around us, they set off, lights going, straight down the middle. Cars were shifting all over the show, I felt like Moses on the Red Sea. We all lived to tell the tale and they certainly set us nicely on our way. Vive l’entente cordiale!!
