A quick plug for the new users map. Let’s see how far the forum stretches both across the UK and around the world!
The link is always available in the sidebar. At the top of the map is a link to the page in your profile where the details live. A pin will be put in the location you provide. You don’t need (and should not) enter a full address; a town or similarly broad location will do just fine. It’s the field at the bottom of the page where it says Map Location. that you need to use.
I guess there’s a ‘not’ missing after ‘should’

I’d be happier to add my approx location if the map was private and therefore only viewable by logged on users rather than anyone/thing browsing this site. Is that possible/reasonable?
An interesting and not unreasonable idea. I’ll look in to it.
Edit: @wattie I haven’t found a way to hide the actual map (yet) but it’s worth noting that a person must be logged in to see a member’s profile card. So if you’re not logged in and click on a pin on the user map, all you see is this:
I put the name of my home into the location box and if I zoom right in its placed me right in the middle of the town cemetery. Is that a bad omen?
You’ll not be hoping for any visits from the neighbours then…
It defaults to the dead centre of town.
