No, I believe it can’t…
If you do get a newer (second hand) ecu, could you just swap the eprom (chip) over from the newer one to the older one?
Maybe it only does the injection stuff and not anything else, which is good.
Involves opening up the ecus though.
Absolutely no idea if this is a terrible thing to do but worth a shot if yer fooked?
Perhaps the local computer shop could help with that?
Thank goodness!!
All sorted. Not sure what IT jiggery pokery was required but a “screwed” ECU is now all ok!
Bike running. New map installed and all is good! Better even!
For anyone interested, once I’ve caught up with the chap, I’ll find out exactly what the issues actually was, and then what he had to do to resolve it. I think it was more than the laptop simply flunking out…
Hopefully it’ll help others.
Important initial lesson… DON’T PANIC.
Look forward to hearing this.
Stopped panicking in 1978
This is the official issue and resolution, maybe if use to others :
So the problem all along was a Com Port communications issue. I attempted to address this by changing transfer rates and increasing buffer sized and timeouts. I managed to improve a 3% failure to around a 30% failure. However still a fail ! The problem was related to the specific cable and hopefully not others. Usually a cable either works or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t work at all, then the problem is always a lot easier to address. The drivers that came with the cable allowed it to work badly with an intermittent connection. This is very unusual. We were blaming the poor performance on your old computer however it would have made no difference at all on a newer Windows 10 computer (including my TuneECU computer). Driver updates and additional windows components were required. No driver updates were available despite my repeated online update scans. The way I discovered what was missing was that the fourth laptop I tried had Windows 11 Professional installed. I connected the cable at home and went through the same setup. Because it was online, Windows 11 asked for an alternative .net version and also specific Com Port related software too, which I was able to download and install. I did the same on your old computer and it now works a treat. I’ve not ever had this before and I have used many cables to do this since 2008.
I’m glad it’s fixed anyway, Daniel.
Wow. Cable issues and lost packets on serial com ports. Partying like it’s 1999.
Think I’ll stick to kickstarting it and be on my way if that’s all the same…
There’s 5 minutes I’m not getting back, I need a lie down.
You’re welcome
