Heated grips... Triumph or aftermarket

in 3 months it’s November.
I want heated grips on my tiger.
Triumph got a set, 2 grips, a wireloom and a pushbutton
it all connects under the tank to the original wireloom of the bike… easy…
but costs 3x more money than an aftermarket set from Oxford.

found the set on ebay

is it worth the money ? 100 ponds more but no hassel with glue, and wires…

I fitted Triumph heated grips to my Speedmaster and found on the high setting they are only just adequate on a 7°C day with winter gloves on. I’ve heard that users of the Oxford kit find they can go as hot as would reasonably want so that may be a factor, depending on your riding habits.

I wanted the Triumph kit though as it fitted in seamlessly and looked neater, especially as on my model of bike the wiring already existed up to a connector hidden inside the handlebar controls. Whereas the Oxford kit would need extra cables and had a big ugly control box (though I now believe they have improved the design).

If you aren’t aware of it, there’s official detailed instruction for fitting Triumph accessories that can be found at https://www.triumphinstructions.com/, just put it the relevant part number.

A9638337 this is the Triumph number… and there are 2 different sets. One with a big button, mounted on the left mirror clamp, the other set has an integrated buttom in the left grip.
but I don’t live in the UK… and have to pay about 80 euro’s extra due to tax and shippingcosts.
a complete set is € 260 overhere… Oxford set € 65,-

Had Oxfords on a couple of bikes, absolutely fine, never had to use the hottest setting. Keep your money and pass on the usual stupidly overpriced Triumph kit. Get the Oxfords. Easy to fit, and gluing a couple of grips in place is not such a big task. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanx…
You know what connector Triumph uses to fit the wireloom?
perhaps I can connect the Oxford kit, without splicing into the bikes wires.
I also want to know… the 12V output socket under the dash… is alway’s 12V.
is it easy to convert to a switched socket ? like replacing the life wire in the fusebox for a switched one.
I have the Tomtom connected to this 12V port

I fitted Whites grips to my Tiger, I think there sold as Ultimate grips in the Northern Hemisphere. I used the connector from a non working set of Triumph grips so I could use the dedicated connector under the tank. The Whites grips have 5 heated setting and integrated controller.

I’ve got the OEM Triumph heated grips on my Tiger, and find them underperforming. I’d try something else…

I have Oxford heated grips on my Street Triple and agree about the efficiency. They get very toasty on the higher setting.

I’m pretty sure you can’t do that as the controller for the Triumph one is built into the bike’s instrument panel, so those connectors don’t have power until the computer turns it on. And when it does that, it’s going to be in a form (pulsed width modulated?) that goes with the heat setting selected. Also, the circuitry in the instrument panel may not like the extra power draw other hotter grips use.

I haven’t tried the Oxford grips, so can’t comment on them, but I’m sure they’ll be good, as Oxford stuff generally seems to be. I had the pricey Triumph ones fitted to my Street Twin from new because of their very neat and unobtrusive appearance. The high setting is certainly warm enough for any weather I’m ever likely to be riding in.

I have had heated grips fitted from triumph on all of my new bikes when purchased.
Haven’t used Oxford heated grips so cannot comment on them, but can confirm that the triumph oem ones are adequate, but not brilliantly hot.

I’ve fitted Oxford heated grips to four different bikes now and confirm that they are significantly hotter than OEM Triumph ones, which i had on my Tiger 900 GTPro.

They now do integrated ones without the clumsy control box. Also have the Ultimateaddons integrated ones on the Street Triple - again much better than Triumphs own.

Why not get some heated gloves instead? Heated grips are ok (had them on all of my BMWs) but they don’t stop the windchill on the fingers and backs of your hands. Plus of course if you sell the bike you still have the gloves

These came on the MT10. I really like em only ever had Oxford before and liked them. If I had to choose I would select the Daytona for there discreet controls.
