Hello From a New Triumph Speed 400 Owner

Hello everybody!

I have recently bought a Speed 400 and am working through those first careful 600 miles, before a service later this month. It’s a slight downsize from my previous bike, a Honda CB500X that I had for 7 years or so… I think I deserved a change after all that time!

Welcome to the forum! Those 400’s are very nice. I was sitting on one exactly the same as yours the other day. It was a demonstrator so I’ll be back to try it out.

Hi and welcome. Very nice bike indeed!

Thank you for the welcome!

I dropped into West Coast Triumph in Glasgow a few weeks ago, honestly just for a look. They offered me a test ride, so off I went. When I got back they had put an offer together, and with a bit of negotiation on the trade-in price, the deal was done!

West Coast Triumph are a very friendly, welcoming dealer and when you buy a bike they ask you to ring a bell in the showroom - I rang the bell and shouted “I only came in for a look!”

Ah yes, I know that place. I’m not sure if it’s still the same but it was, I think, next to the Ducati Glasgow dealership (I purchased a Multistrada off them) that was bought out by the Ducati Manchester people. Haven’t been there in more recent times.

They are part of West Coast Harley but have moved further along the main road. West Coast have started Glasgow Bike Nights in the Harley/Ducati car park area, last Thursday of the summer months.

I think Ducati have moved and the Triumph/Ducati showroom is now lying empty.

I thought it must’ve changed. A friend of mine used to work at the HD dealer then moved to Saltire in Edinburgh.

Welcome aboard AJC, it’s good here…!

Welcome in Alex. It’s fun here, and packed with useful/useless information. :slightly_smiling_face:
Most of us here have at some time found how expensive those “free” test rides can turn out to be.
Top money saving tips:-
#1 - Leave your bank cards at home when going to a bike shop.
#2 - Only test ride a bike you’re confident you won’t like (doesn’t always work).
#3 - Only test ride a bike (with “sticky out bits”) that your partner hates - infallible.

I should have read this advice this morning… :joy:

Hi, nice bike and welcome to the forum :sunglasses:

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. Both the 400 models look impressive. I was very impressed with the 400 Scrambler I borrowed when my bike was in for a service.

Well, that’s the last few miles on the bike before its 600mile service tomorrow… and yes, the engine management light came back on!

They have a few niggly little things to check, and then I’ll be ready for some proper ride-outs. :+1:

Apparently they have released this bike with a known software fault that brings up the engine management light but are not informing customers :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: They tried a software upgrade but apparently this has made it worse. I know this because one of our local bike schools bought 2 and has just returned them for this issue and gone for MT03’s instead as they can’t present to a test centre with an engine management light showing :triumph:

Hopefully it is the only hidden snag, or is building in India coming home to roost?? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

My new member introduction will be closing soon, so I’ll finish with this - 600 mile service complete, software update done, bike running perfectly and no warning lights.

Now to get a few proper miles on the clock.
