Honda announce the E-VO

I’m not against electric bikes in principle but these new Honda bikes are slabby and horrible. Did Phillipe Starck come up with these?

Well that thing surely got smacked with the ugly stick more than once or twice.

Has a BMW designer jumped ship to Honda?

Styling is definitely going downhill. Compare with Brough SS100, Manx Norton, Rocket Gold Star, pre-unit Bonneville, Velo Thruxton, etc, etc…

Perhaps one day batteries will come in all shapes and sizes but for now they’re big and blocky. Either you accept that’s how they look or you try to cover it up like Honda have done. Neither are aesthetically pleasing to my eye.

The gold wing had/has a big blocky engine, but crucially… didn’t look that shit!

It seems to be less about the size and more about the shape (missus). You’d think that batteries have more potential for developing in to different shapes and sizes. Internal combustion engines can’t get away from needing cylinders and all the gubbins to make the pistons go up and down.

Surely a decent designer can come up with something that looks like a real bike at some point? Why can’t it have fake exhausts and old school looks?

The Maeving is sort of getting there

This is actually one with an engine but right shape for electricity - if that’s your thing.

Wouldn’t take too much work with the hacksaw or designer’s pencil to drop the straightline seat a bit

I imagine you’d want a more substantial swingarm too with the torque and weight of an electric. Like the idea of girder forks just to keep a bit of interest.

I will be disappointed ultimately, if electric bikes don’t look like this…
