Illegal Dashcams (does this include helmet cams?)

Apparently it is illegal in Portugal, Austria and Luxembourg to have dash cams in your car and will result in large fines if caught, even if they are off or stored anywhere in your vehicle such as the glove box. Does this then also mean helmet cams will fall into the same category?

It appears to be about data sharing issues… a very quick google suggests there are no specific laws in any of those 3 countries regarding helmet cams… but they may well fall in the generalised data protection laws. (Something I would never have considered)

Consider Switzerland too… maybe worth getting MCN or similar to confirm the reality of the situation

I guess this also includes front and rear cameras on the bike. It seems strange that they would legislate against a safety feature?

Oops I drove thru’ a few of the countries mentioned last year with a dashcam and didn’t know.
I know we are all different cultures but I don’t understand a country, in which everyone must carry an ID card all of the time, getting their knickers in a twist about being photographed from a public place. But that’s their rules and at least I’m now aware for the next time.
It would be good to get a definitive answer about helmet cams but I’m going to assume they fall into the same restriction as dashcams.

I have asked the question of MCN… if I hear anything, I’ll post it here.
