#@%&in Madness!

:joy: The crazy world we now live in!

Cornwall has now gone mad with 20mph limits in almost every village. I never saw any consultation as to whether residents (who councillors are supposed to be serving) actually wanted it. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Some (few) places benefit from 20mph, but most places they are a frustration without obvious benefit… because they are a blanket approach, rather than considered for each position

Same up here in Scotland, many villages where I ride now have 20mph limits. It can go on for miles!

I even know of one stretch of dual carriageway which has a 20mph limit - probably a preface to making bike lanes or bus lanes!

Yes, it’s the nanny state again. Sadly required due to low driving standards in many cases. A responsible driver will be doing no more than 20 in some cases, but we end up with excessive use of 20 limits to cater for the morons (that will ignore the limit in any case - enforcement of any limits is rare in Cornwall).

I live on a mostly single track lane (which has a 60 limit :joy:), the track from my garage at the bottom of the garden emerges on a 90deg bend along with a bridle path used by horses and mt bikes. Safe speed no more than 10, average about 30+, hardly a day goes by without the screech of tyres as oncoming cars meet. Laughably some even use their horn (at speed), just waiting for the day a startled horse is involved too.

PS. You can always tell a local Cornish car, offside door mirror will be held together with gaffer tape.
