Yes Dumfries and the surrounding area is beautiful riding country 
I toured around that area a number of times, lovely.
You’re very lucky to have such roads and scenery on your doorstep 
I want a few days in D & G sometime, walk up the Merrick and such. Had a couple of nights in Portpatrick on the way to Arran, that was a pleasant little spot.
