It was time to put the Honda NT1100 properly on the road.
Luggages, 2 of us on the bike. Moment of truth. We didn’t choose the easy way and planned to do all the pass we can find on our way.
Let’s go.. During the 5 days we had very high temperatures, mainly between 32° with a max of 36°. We climbed a lot of 2000m high pass, there is was cooler. We carried enough water to keep hydrated.
First day through Megeve, Chamonix, Martigny (CH), Cran Montana, 6 hours on the bike, then at 18 km from Tasch (near Zermatt) we were stopped. A car fire in the last tunnel.. Stayed there 40 minutes, chatting with locals with my reminiscence of German language skills.
Next morning we took the train to climb up to Zermatt. That’s a no car city since early 70s. All cars are electric and are certainly derived from airport vehicles
In the afternoon, back on the bike to climb the Furka pass, made famous by Goldfinger 007. It’s to me the nicest one, but the way down to Andermatt, the road is not for people like me subject to vertigo. No security, anyone can jump down in a second !!
There I helped a German guy who dropped his BMW HP2. That can happen to anyone, so a little help is not much.
Night in Andermatt. We booked an hotel without knowing Sean Connery and Eon crew stayed there in 1964. That’s the Bergidyll hotel. And we had the room 22, Sean had the 21 ![]()
The hotel is mainly as it was in the 60’S, very stylish. Liked it.
Next day, we started with Sainkt Gothard pass, and rode down near Saint Moritz. No pictures, but we enjoyed the ride between pass and curvy roads.
Then next day we jump several time between Swiss and Italy with some nice pass, Julierpass, the mighty Chiavenna Splugen pass, where we needed several time to stop to allow cars on our side of the road to take the curves, then rode along Italian lakes, Como, lago Maggiore, Lugano lake, and stayed on the side of Mergozzo lake. Very hot day, but we had a swimming pool directly over the lake ![]()
A bit of Dolce Vita before the last day to head home.
380 km, under 34°, climbing the Simplon pass (very nice), and then contour Leman lake by the north (Montreux, Lausanne, Geneve) and a bit of motorway to test the NT1100 in all conditions.
That bike is brilliant, easy to ride, even in technical conditions and fully loaded.
The DCT is brilliant too. I switched to manual mode in the difficult parts to control traction in airpins.
And finally motorway at 130 km/h just needed to raise the windshield on 3rd position (on 5).
Issues: The CarPlay is really practical, but the iPhone in my SwMotech Shelter ran too hot after a few minutes, even if I let it open. So I had to memorize all the cities to find my way.
Otherwise, no issue, the bike is so confortable, even for the passenger.
And to finish, here is the tip of the day (some of you should already know). Advised by my American neighbor who travels a lot, we bough on amazon compression bags (the simple version, ni vacuum pump) and it’s a real game changer if you travel with your lady ![]()
