Loose mirror

Probably me bing stupid but, how do you tighten up a loose mirror on. street Triple 765? The bar mounting is ok, it’s the actual mirror that’s loose.

Isn’t there a hex screw on the bar-end clamp you can tighten?

I’m assuming the mirror swivels on a sort of ball bearing. The clamp on the ball needs tightening. If the ball can’t be obviously tightened then the mirror glass will need to be removed. It’ll only be held on by some glue gun stuff so warm the mirror up with a heat gun (without melting the plastic surround) and pry it out. There’s probably a cover underneath held in with screws. Take those out and remove the cover. Under all that will be a metal bridge that clamps onto the swivel bearing. Tighten those screws up onto the ball. Sorted, stick it all back together.

Something like this?

No, it’s the mirror on the ball mount, not the fixing to the bar. Should’ve taken a pic.

I had something like this on my Honda CB500X - the mirror head coming slightly loose at the top of the stem?

On that bike it couldn’t be tightened without taking out the mirror glass, so I used a zip-tie tightened at the junction of the mirror head and stem! It wasn’t all that visible and was intended as a temporary fix…. but was still there when I traded it in a few years later!

I eventually replaced this clear tie with a black one, but this is where I fixed the zip-tie - brutal, I know, but it worked…..

This is the bit that’s loose.

@Tigcraft of this parish popped rounds yesterday and suggested removing the mirror and using small piece of cement bag, for its hardy properties, to pack it out.

Nicely explained

I just know that if I tried that the mirror would crack when I levered it out!

Useful channel for prospective Scrambler 1200 XE owners like me  (He’s a long term owner with lots of useful content.)

Brilliant. Thanks for digging that out. All I need now is an heat gun, a sturdy blade, possibly a hot glue gun, and some courage.

Heat guns are great for stripping paint.

So don’t accidentally point it at the fuel tank, then.
